Developmental Pediatrics Resource Center
Autism is an exceptionally complex and challenging disorder. There is no standard treatment protocol for the syndrome, and different children benefit from different types of medical, clinical and behavioral therapies - what helps Elizabeth will not necessarily help Carlos. Even the most prepared parents are tested trying to find the right treatments and resources for their child. And the prevalence of this disease is increasing - it is estimated that today one in every 150 children is suffering from an autism spectrum disorder.
Alexian Brothers Hospital Network offers a uniquely powerful combination of medical and clinical specialties that can help children with autism. With renowned competencies in developmental pediatrics, brain research, child psychiatry and neuro-psychology, Alexian Brothers offers children and their families the most advanced and comprehensive care available.
With the help of generous donors, however, we are going beyond providing the best medical and clinical care, and developing a Developmental Pediatrics Resource Center that will include: a focused triage system with “nurse navigators” to coordinate the various medical and clinical interventions for each child, education programs and tools to teach parents about new research and resources, advocacy training to help parents learn to be advocates for their children within the schools, state and federal systems, and guidance to identify and take advantage of existing resources that can help them care for their children and support their families. With your help, families receiving the difficult diagnosis of “autism” will have a powerful resource in their corner to help them create the best possible life for their child.
