The Value of the Children's Hospital to our Community
The new Children’s Hospital will be designed using state-of-the-art understanding about healing spaces for children that include spaces for play, private rooms, and special accommodations for families. It will bring forward a new paradigm of medicine – making advanced, academic-quality medical care for children available close to their homes, families and support systems.
The finished hospital will feature:
- Pediatric Surgery with Pediatric Anesthesiologists and Radiology, utilizing child-size preparation and recovery rooms.
- Pediatric in-patient floor with 20 medical/surgical beds, and an eight-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), all of which will be integrated with St. Alexius’ pediatric emergency service and facility: EmergiKids.
- Children- and family-focused rooms, with separate play areas for older children, private in-room bathrooms, and pull-out beds for family members, family showers, and spaces to work for parents who are staying with their child.
- Supportive, holistic and spiritually based care founded on the Alexian Brothers centuries-old tradition of caring for the whole person.
- Child Life Specialists who have expertise in providing a safe, supportive and positive hospital experience for children.
- Integrated pediatric specialty clinics.

- Pediatric Neuroscience (epilepsy, concussion, neurosurgery)
- Developmental Pediatrics (Down Syndrome, NICU follow-up)
- Neurosurgery
- Pulmonology
- Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
- Gastroenterology
- Urology
- Pediatric Surgery
- Ophthalmology
- Cardiology
- Hematology/Oncology
- Nephrology
All of these departments will be staffed with highly trained pediatric specialists, sub-specialists and nursing staff. The broad range of medical offerings will enable the hospital to coordinate specialty physician care with ancillary care, and provide tailored programs for children, close to home.
